Zemaitis 1979 E/G 6st CUSTOM
ラウンドディスクよりも一回りコンパクトなテリー・シェイプのカスタム・デラックスは、オーストラリアのコレクターのために、丁寧にトニーがリファービッシュした逸品。ダイアのインレイに使われているアバロンは、メキシコ貝ではなく、比較的おとなしい輝きを示すレッドアバロンで、大きなフレークが特徴だ。
ヘッドストックは、通常「染めた薄い板」がはられるが、このモデルに関しては、おそらくもともとナチュラルな仕上げだったものを、リファービッシュのときにトニーがブラックにデザインしなおしているのだろう、グッとモダンなテイストだ。
ペグのつまみが半円形のグローバータイプなのは、めずらしい。まだ、カスタムデラックスとカスタムとデラックスのグレードを区別していなかった70年代の作品で、“カスタム”とだけ称されている。
Telecaster-shape Custom Deluxe, one size smaller than Round-Plate model. Carefully refurbished by Tony for Australian collector. Diamond inlays feature subdued shine and large flakes, characteristics of Red Abalone (not Mexican Abalone). Dyed veneer is usually glued to headstock. Tony probably changed the original light color finish to black when restoring it, thus giving it a much modern look. Note Glover-type half-round knobs on pegs. Graded "Custom", made in the '70s when there were still no distinction between "Custom" and "Custom Deluxe".
